Wellness & lifestyle coach, Karen SpreyI’m continually excited and inspired by how the small, often simple lifestyle changes we make can have such a huge impact on our health and wellness.

I love helping people like you take those first small, positive steps that lead to the “aha!” moments and give you the confidence to think “I can do this!” and actively take responsibility for your wellbeing.

Although coaching focuses on you, you might be interested in a bit of background information about me to help you decide if I’m the right coach to work with.

10 Things About Me

  1. “Making a difference” is really important to me and is one of my key values. It’s why I love coaching: it’s incredibly rewarding to help people develop the confidence to take charge of their own wellbeing. I work as a volunteer wellness coach one day a fortnight with low income earners, and also “foster” two elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya, and support microfinancing projects through Kiva.
  2. I’ve been involved in the wellness industry since 2011.  You can find more info on my LinkedIn profile – feel free to connect with me!
  3. I’m an accredited Lifestyle, Food & Wellness coach and have completed coaching studies at RMIT and Wellness Coaching Australia, as well as an Accredited Certificate in  Nutrition through Cadence Health. I love learning, even though every time I take on study I say it will be the last time (it won’t: I recently completed my Grad Dip Wellness, and a Diploma in Positive Psychology might be next!)
  4. I’ve always been interested in communication and creating engaging messages and content. In the past I’ve worked in public relations and in the web/online area for local councils, a high school, and a university as well as for not-for-profit clients.
  5. I’m fascinated by and have a deep respect for elephants, and I’m privileged to have seen them in the wild in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.
  6. In case you didn’t pick it from the point above, I love Africa.  I first visited South Africa in 2006 and, as they say, the continent got under my skin. I also spent a month on a volunteer project in Mozambique in 2008 on my way back to Australia after living in London for almost seven years.
  7. One of my favourite things to do is to sit with a cup of tea (my favourite at the moment is a tulsi ginger lemon brew) and a magazine or book, or just daydream and look out of the window onto trees. I also love walking on the beach (that’s not a cliche, I live in a beautiful coastal location!), visiting galleries, watching movies, and working on being more creative.
  8. I LOVE chocolate! These days I tend to make my own healthier treats with raw cacao – take a look at my resources page for recipes and links.
  9. I enjoy a glass of red or sparkling wine, and although I usually eat well, I definitely have the occasional “blow out”. Being well isn’t about denying yourself!
  10. I try to take the time to sit in silence at least once a day but “meditation” doesn’t always come easily. Luckily, meditation can be something more active, like gardening, yoga or doing something creative, when I find it a lot easier to be completely mindful and in the moment.
